The Dos and Don’ts of Decorating Your Artificial Turf For The Holidays

Do you wait in anticipation for the day when it’s finally time to pull out those holiday decorations?

We know the feeling. Decorating is fun for the whole family and brings color and personality to any landscaping. Besides, who doesn't love getting into the holiday spirit?

But first things first. Let’s talk about grass health.

Your Halloween monsters and Christmas Santas can be tough on natural grass, which makes artificial turf that much more ideal. Once the decorations are put away for the year, you can count on your artificial turf to still be perky, lush, and beautifully eye-catching.

To keep your lawn looking its best, we’ve put together some artificial turf decorating dos and don’ts.

Do Get Creative

Your landscaping is your canvas, so unleash your artistic side. Feel free to decorate as much as you want with the confidence that your artificial turf will stand up to the test.

If you want something that’s welcoming, and magical by day and night, here are two ideas for decorating your artificial turf.

Add Sparkle

Nothing brightens up the gloom of winter and spreads holiday cheer quite like lights. You can use them to outline shapes or string them up to add twinkle to outside surfaces. The great thing about lights is that you can go the traditional route with all white or use them to add a color scheme to your decorations.

Candy Cane Border

Spice up your landscaping by outlining your artificial turf with candy canes. They’re a holiday staple and add a nice aesthetic touch to the rich green of artificial turf grass.

Don’t Push Stakes Through Your Artificial Turf

This is our biggest no-no. Driving stakes into your artificial turf can cause damage. The good news is, there are plenty of options to decorate your front lawn without using props that require stakes. Some decorations are naturally stable like sleighs or reindeer, but you can also find metal or plastic objects that are weighted down in the bottom.

Do Lookout for Inflatable Decorations

Inflatable Christmas Decorations

Inflatable decorations look great and can be a lot of fun, but they’re not ideal for your artificial turf. The reason why? They have a tendency to fall over or fly away in the wind. Inflatables also need something to stabilize them, which usually requires pegs or stakes. Don’t worry, you can still enjoy your favorite air-filled decorations. We just recommend placing them on the outside edges of your artificial turf lawn instead.

Don’t Forget About Your Other Landscape Features

Yes, the front lawn is the main event when it comes to your home, but don’t forget about the subtle details too. Decorating your walkway can be a nice complement to the colors and objects on your artificial turf landscaping. It adds a subtle warmth and inviting touch to your outdoor decor.

Do Enjoy Your Artificial Turf Again and Again

With artificial turf, you don’t have to worry about killing the grass from holiday decorating. Spring, summer, fall, or winter, you can count on your artificial turf to look great. For the low maintenance artificial turf lawn, install Envirofill or Safeshell artificial turf infill.

Before you decide to get started, we suggest sprucing up your turf lawn with a little winter time maintenance. It’ll look great during the season and for seasons to come. Happy decorating!
