2018 USGreentech Community Impact Fund Winners

USG Community Impact Fund Winners

On behalf of the employees of USGreentech and The Motz Corporation (TMC), we're announcing the winners of our Community Impact Fund. In 2018, TEN organizations were chosen to receive a $1,000 Community Impact Grant.

The TMC Community Impact Fund started in 2016 and is dedicated to making a lasting impact in the communities we serve through the collective efforts of our employees. Team members voluntarily donate a certain dollar amount from their paycheck during the course of the year. Throughout December, applications were received from organizations such as yours. Participating employees then voted on their top 10 choices from the applications to determine the 10 winning recipients.

In its third year, the Community Impact Fund received a record number of applications. While more applications make it difficult to choose just 10 recipients, it provides us with an opportunity to make an impact in many different communities around the country. Based on continued popularity amongst our employees, we are excited for the future of this program and the opportunity to support charitable programs for years to come.

And the Winners are....

1. Clovernook Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired

Clovernook has proudly served women, men and children for over 100 years. Their rich history provides the backdrop for today’s progressive and caring campus-like environment, where we remain dedicated to adults and youth who are blind or visually impaired. The purpose of  this project is to invite students in grades 1-12 to compete in a Clovernook exclusive, statewide qualifying event for the national competition in a series of five skills contents. These contests consist of braille reading and comprehension, speed, and accuracy, spelling, proofreading, and tactile graphics.

 2. JOY Ministries

In the fall of 2011, God impressed upon the team the desire to serve people in the local community stricken by poverty, single parenthood, and drugs.  Since then, J.O.Y Ministries has been working to share the love of Jesus with everyone, regardless of their past or current situation. This project would oversee the construction of a vinyl building to house a bathroom and simple sleeping area for four persons that is outfitted with insulation, electricity, air-conditioning, heat, and water in order to provide emergency overnight housing to an individual or family when needed in the community.

 3. Dioceasan Catholic Children's Home

DCCH Center for Children and Families provides around the clock residential treatment for children with significant behavioral challenges, most of whom have been removed from their home due to neglect and/or sexual/physical/emotion abuse. DCCH provides foster care and adoption services. This project would provide around the clock care and therapy for children who have been removed from their homes by the State due to extreme abuse.

4. Family Shelter of McCulloch County

The mission of The Haven Family Shelter is to reduce the incidence and the impact of domestic violence and/or sexual assault in McCulloch, Mason and Menard Counties and surrounding areas by providing services and support that empower victims to rebuild their lives and regain their dignity within a safe and caring community. The purpose of this project is to provide primary and secondary child victims of domestic violence and sexual assault a safe, secure and durable play area.

5. LuBird's Light Foundation

LuBird's Light Foundation recognizes that playgrounds are essential cornerstones of all inviting communities.  The long term outcomes of creating more adaptive, inclusive spaces for the whole community to access is a strategy that will promote tolerance and inclusion, foster love for play and create a space where all our children can access and enjoy the beauty that our state offers.  Their goal is to create a place where kids of all abilities can come to enjoy sensory rich and inclusive playground equipment with their family, friends and therapists in a welcoming, playful and fully accessible environment. A place where it's okay for kids to shout their excitement, run to regulate their sensory systems, and a place for people to learn from and gain acceptance of all types of behaviors. LuBird’s Light Stanley Marketplace Inclusive Playground Project would build Denver and Aurora’s first inclusive playground where children of all abilities will be given a chance to play.

 6. Activities Beyond the Classroom

Their mission is to ensure that Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) students participate in activities beyond the classroom that help develop the skills they need to succeed in life. Provide necessary support for every CPS student to engage in extracurricular activities throughout the year. The 'Swimming for safety' project will provide basic water safety lessons to children at Taft Elementary School.

7. East Texas Crisis Center

The East Texas Crisis Center is dedicated to providing safety, shelter, and education for victims of family violence, sexual assault, and other violent crime. Commitment to restoring dignity and purpose in the lives of victims and promoting public compassion and awareness in order to reduce violence in our community. The project will provide new play equipment for children who live in the emergency shelter of the East Texas Crisis Center

8. Mission at Brady

Over the past four years, our 501 3C non-profit organization has made repairs on some 30 homes. They have replaced windows, roofs, and siding, painted homes, cleaned up lots and built ramps for the handicapped. Their mission has always been to make living conditions better for our community members, who are homeowners, by making repairs to the outside of their homes. They have accomplished this totally by volunteer workers and through the generous donations of groups and individuals. The purpose of this project is to make repairs to at least 70 homes in the next 6 years, bringing their total to 100 homes over 10 years.

9. The Literacy Network of Greater Cincinnati

The Literacy Network of Greater Cincinnati champions the development of literacy in the individual, the family, the workplace, the school, and the community by raising awareness, improving access, and serving as a catalyst for literacy efforts. They are a nonprofit organization that serves as the contact center for literacy programs in the tri-state area. The service area includes eight counties that works with more than 60 literacy programs. They also work with a coalition of more than 100 provider agencies and more than 30 schools to improve lives throughout the region. The purpose of the Little Free Libraries (Newtown Area) project is to place two Little Free Libraries in or around the Newtown area, in order to guarantee access to free books.

10. Notre Dame Academy
