A major reason a community opts for a synthetic turf field is reduced maintenance. While there is no such thing as a maintenance-free artificial grass field, there are steps that can be taken to ensure your field does not exceed your communities capacity or budget for caring for your new system.

When the “turf boom” of the late 90s and early 00s happened, owners were experiencing an increase in demand for playing time with a natural grass system that just couldn’t hold up. Schools with one surface for boys and girls soccer, football, lacrosse, field hockey, physical education classes, etc. were doing everything possible and exhausting resources to try to keep their field in tip top shape, but ultimately this task was a losing battle. In a similar vein, community parks would see a few days of nice, pristine grass each spring and then a few weeks later were nothing but mud and dirt. Something had to give.

The first turf fields were an oasis for the facility managers tasked with keeping up with these demands. Flash forward to today and the ever growing list of options for synthetic turf system design has brought the conversation around maintenance back to the forefront. As it pertains to Envirofill, maintenance is minimal. Because of it’s round core, Envirofill avoids compaction meaning a consistent surface that does not increase in hardness over time. Additionally, Envirofill is infused with Microban antimicrobial technology which inhibits growth of harmful bacteria, mold and mildew in your infill profile meaning your system stays clean between cleanings. It also offers bulk density of 100 resulting in a heavy product that when paired with the right turf specification does not migrate.

- Will this infill require irrigation?
- Can the performance vary as a result of maintaining/not maintaining the field?
- Is any additional equipment needed to care for my field?
- Will the infill choice result in a need for regular top off?
